- Thea Showalter – Direct Textbook High School Senior Essay Scholarship Contest
At the time of winning the scholarship, Thea planned to double major in saxophone performance and gender studies. Thea told Direct Textbook that there were many things she was excited for during her stay at Northwestern University.
- Jose Angel Aguila – Direct Textbook Essay Scholarship Contest Winner
Jose was a filmmaker at Loyola Marymount University focusing on Screenwriting and Cinematography when he won this contest. He was also a staff photographer for the Loyolan, the on-campus newspaper, and was a member of several Latino clubs on campus.

When we received Alyssa’s first-place essay, she was pursuing an exploratory curriculum major in math, engineering, and technology at the University of South Florida. Alyssa expressed she was looking forward to using the scholarship to help experience what college has to offer.

- Dynas Johnson – Direct Textbook Essay Scholarship Contest Winner
Dynas was a Communication Studies major at Temple University when she took first place in our Essay Scholarship contest. When she’s not writing award winning essays, Dynas diligently does her chores and writes poetry. Dynas was also teaching herself how to draw and play the piano.
