A few weeks ago we posted about our experience selling used textbooks back to online stores. Below is an update to that post, showing which stores we actually used, and what our experience was when selling our books to these stores.

Amazon.com (trade in): 9 books total sold, 4 were returned for not being in acceptable condition. They paid quickly and often offered the highest price, but payment was in the form of Amazon.com credit that was only good for select items. Offered good customer service. Existing amazon accounts can be used to complete the process.

BetterWorldBooks.com: Sold 8 books, 1 was not in acceptable condition and was not returned, per their policy. Prices were close to other stores, within about 3 dollars. Registration and checkout process was a little confusing, had to actually look around for how to do it. Link to complete sale was small and hard to find. Confirmation email came quickly. Opted for payment by check and it came fast, only about a week and half from the time the books were shipped to the arrival of the check.

Bookbyte.com: Sold 3 books, none were returned. Received payment by check for all 3, payment took about 2 weeks to arrive in the mail. Paid good, high prices, sometimes $10 more than other stores. Easy to follow checkout process and packing instructions.

Bookrenter.com: 3 books sold, received payment for 2, one did not meet acceptable condition criteria. Price was low in comparison to other stores. Registration was pretty easy but had to submit payment information twice for some reason. Confirmation email came quickly.

Bookstores.com: 3 books sold, received payment by check for all 3 within about 2 weeks of shipping books to them. Good prices, but must sell at least $15 worth of books to this store in order to use them. Clear, easy registration process and and confirmation email with packing slip and shipping label links came right away after submitting order.

Cash4Books.com: Sold 2 books, one was donated because it did not their meet condition requirements. Price paid was middle of the road. Process was super easy to use and confirmation email came quickly. Payment arrived by check in less than 2 weeks.

Chegg.com: 2 books sold, 1 did not meet condition requirements and was not returned, per their policy. Good cash prices, they also would have paid about $10 more if we had accepted store credit instead of check. Took about 2 weeks for check to arrive in the mail. Easy registration process.

Ecampus.com: 3 books sold, 1 did not meet condition requirements and was not returned. Prices were significantly higher than other stores, and they would have paid about $15 more if we had chosen store credit. Registration was easy but the process of confirming the sale was repetitive. Checks arrived in the mail in about 3 weeks.

Powells.com: 2 books sold, payment took about 2-3 weeks to arrive and was made through paypal only. Prices were good in comparison to other stores. During checkout process book had to be confirmed 2-3 times and shipping label button was a little small and hard to find. Otherwise fairly easy overall.

SellBackBooks.com: Sold 2 books, received payment for both but it took over 3 weeks to arrive in the mail. Registration and checkout process was easy and straightforward but prices paid for the books were quite a bit less than other stores.

SellBackYourBook.com: 9 books sold, 4 did not meet condition requirements and we did not receive payment for those. Must sell back at least $5 in books in order to use this store. Multiple shipping options, but if selling under $50 of books you have to pay extra for Fedex upgrade instead of using USPS. Checks were received in about 2 weeks and registration and checkout process was easy. Offered good high prices when compared with other store options.

TextbookRecycling.com: 3 books sold, received payment for all 3 fast, in 10 days or less. Prices were less than other stores by about $15 in some cases. Must sell at least $25 in books in order to use this store. Pretty easy process and received confirmation email quickly.

TextbookStop.com: 2 books sold, have not received payment for either of them in over 6 weeks. Prices were middle of the road compared to other stores and registration was easy. However, finding the link to print the shipping label was difficult, and the link ended up being broken and producing an error. The confirmation email had a link to print the shipping label but this one was broken as well. Had to call the store to get the shipping label information, inconvenient overall.

Valore.com: 2 books sold, one we received payment for the other did not meet their requirements and was not returned. Price was better than some stores but lower than others, right in the middle. Confirmation email came quickly with shipping and packing instructions. Check was received after 2 weeks.

Note: None of the stores provide packing materials. You will need to get packing materials from the store or post office. We found that packing materials cost about $2.00 per shipment.
